Knights Key, Florida

Miami has been your go-to spot for a quick getaway for a long time. Flights are cheap and short. There are plenty of chic hotels. Plus the weather is consistently, well, perfect. There’s only one problem. You’re starting to outgrow the Magic City’s party scene.

Fear not. You don’t have to give up on South Florida. You can keep the flights and the weather. You even have new hotels to check out. You just have to add a rental car and about a two-hour drive to your travel plans.

Your new destination is the Florida Keys. The drive on the Overseas Highway is breathtaking. Turquoise water is on both sides of the road as you drive through Key Largo, Islamorada, and Duck Key. Key West, the southernmost point in the continental United States, lies at the end of the highway. You’re stopping in the aptly named Middle Keys, Knights Key to be exact, this time.

Knights Key is home to the brand-new Isla Bella Beach Resort. The resort just opened last spring. It sits on 24 acres that face south toward the Atlantic Ocean. It features low, three-story buildings with nautical-themed rooms. Plus it offers both sunrise and sunset views. So far, so good.

Morning coffee and yogurt parfait are also available at the Marketplace. Palm trees, tiki huts, and hammocks line the private beach. Kayaks and fishing gear are there, too. Cocktails and tapas are paired with live music at the Beach Bar. Five pools are lined with wicker sun loungers. Loaner bikes are ready for you to go exploring. The 4,000-foot spa has its own soothing garden. Il Postino serves house-made mozzarella, local seafood, and mouthwatering pasta on its patio. While the service, throughout the entire resort, is top-notch.

Isla Bella Beach Resort and the Florida Keys could easily become your new long-weekend escape. If you’re truly ready to give up Miami, of course.
